About the event
During her 20 years of teaching yoga, Eve has come across and worked with numerous students suffering from back pain. Many of them have found relief through yoga and gentle movement. Eve is not a stranger to back problems and has learned many lessons on her personal journey and through practising yoga at home. She is thankful that back pain is a much rarer occurrence in her life these days, as long as she maintains a regular practice.
Through her work with her students, with her own body and through extensive research, Eve has developed a toolkit for back relief. This includes yoga poses and gentle movements that can assist with:
- Soothing the back during episodes of pain
- Improving joint mobility and muscle flexibility
- Dealing with back spasms and preventing them from worsening through self-myofascial release techniques
- Building strength and resilience in the back as a preventative measure
- Calming the nervous system, which plays a key role in our pain response, through breathing techniques and visualisation
At this workshop we will look at the science behind back pain and will discuss  yoga poses and movements that should be approached with caution in the event of back problems, based on information from well-known yoga teachers and medical professionals.
If you have heard that yoga could help relieve your back, but are concerned about practising safely, this could be a very helpful workshop for you. Eve will equip students with your own movement toolkit to practice at home (in the form of written notes and practice sequences) to prevent and ease back pain.
About the facilitator:
Eve attended a Yoga Teacher Training course at Morley College in London from 2001-2003. After her return to South Africa in 2005, she began teaching yoga regularly and working one-on-one with students suffering from various physical issues. Her fascination with the body led her to train in traditional Thai Massage, as well as attending various workshops, courses and webinars about the anatomy of yoga and movement. She also explored the Feldenkrais Method quite extensively, which often inspires her. This experience has guided Eve to develop and collect helpful practices for common problems, which she loves to share.
